Seattle-Tacoma International Airport was built by the Port Seattle in 1944 after the United States military took control of Boeing Field in World War II. The Port received $1 million from the City of Tacoma. The first scheduled airline flights were 1947  with Trans-Canada and Northwest. United and Western moved from Boeing in the next few years.
