Katie Betty Scholtz (age 16) was born August 21, 2003. She lived with her mom and her stepdad, Bill Farmer Jones in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her dad, Tom, lived with his mom and dad in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her dad had to ask her mom for a divorce when she was 4 because Grandma and Grandpa Scholtz didn’t want to take care of themselves anymore.

Grandma and Grandpa Scholtz thought that Katie’s dad should take care of them once they turned 65. Her dad said “I refuse, I have my own family to take care of. ” They said “Non-sense, we want you to move in with us like to do our grocery shopping. ” He started crying. He said “Sorry guys, I have to move out. I have to take care of grandpa and grandma. ”

Katie said “Grandma and Grandpa Scholtz can take care of themselves, right daddy?” Her dad said “I guess not. They are both 65 and FULLY capable of taking care of themselves. At least I thought they were. Apparently, they aren’t though which makes me sad. They don’t want to rather. I guess I have to take care of them. ” Katie said “That is sad. It isn’t right. “
