An Elizabeth Miller story

                                                           “Elizabeth’s Grandpa Leaves”

need to be loved too much

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Elizabeth Miller. Elizabeth’s grandpa was a doctor in the military. One time he was called to Germany to work. Elizabeth went over to her grandpa and grandma’s house to say goodbye to him. By the way, Elizabeth and her mom and her grandpa and grandma live 2 miles apart from each other. Elizabeth walked over to their house.

Elizabeth’s grandpa and grandma said “Hi Lizzy. ” Elizabeth said “I thought I better say goodbye to grandpa before he goes overseas. ” Elizabeth’s grandma said “That was very thoughtful of you Lizzy. ” “Well, you guys feel like a big part of my life. You live so close to me and my mom. ” Elizabeth said. Elizabeth’s grandpa said “I am not looking forward to it actually. ”

“I am going to be working in Iraq where nobody speaks English. ” Elizabeth said “That’s too bad grandpa. ” Elizabeth’s grandpa said. “I am 66 and I can retire when I am 67. I turn 67 on May 27 of this year. I am going to retire then. I can do fun stuff with the 10 of you, except your dad of course. ” Elizabeth’s grandpa said. Elizabeth’s grandma said “It sounds like he is moving to Iowa with his friend, Bobbie. ”

“Yep, sounds like my dad all right. ” Elizabeth said. “Friends before family. ” “He has always been that way. ” Elizabeth’s grandma said. “In fact, when he was 16 he thought it was all right to stay out until 2:00 in the morning every Saturday. I mean every single Saturday. ” Elizabeth said “That explains him being a mayo head is nothing new. ” “No Lizzy, it isn’t. ” Elizabeth’s grandma said.

Elizabeth enjoyed visiting with her grandpa and grandma. She learned some more things about her dad. Her grandparents were glad her dad asked her mom for a divorce when he did, even though he asked for it at the cabin on Christmas. Elizabeth was laughing when she heard that he stayed out until 2:00 every single Saturday night. They had a good visit.
